Soraya has 20 years of experience in Family Law and Criminal Defense, and she has consistently maintained a profound commitment to being a strong advocate for her clients. She has developed strong negotiation and litigation skills in a variety of legal settings including serving as a Staff Attorney with the Legal Aid Society, New York Legal Assistance Group, and Sanctuary for Families at the NYC Family Justice Center. In addition to her public interest background, Soraya has also been engaged in private practice and served as Of Counsel to several small firms to assist them with resolving family law and matrimonial matters by negotiating settlements and conducting trials.

Soraya has served as the Coordinator for two Access to Justice programs geared to assisting pro se (self-represented) litigants that were managed by New York Legal Assistance Group and Sanctuary for Families in partnership with the New York State Office of Court Administration, Office of Justice Initiatives. As a Senior Staff Attorney at Sanctuary for Families, Soraya served as the Coordinator for a Justice for Families program that was funded by the DOJ’s Office on Violence Against Women. The goal of the program was to improve the response of the civil and criminal justice system to families with a history of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking, or in cases involving allegations of child sexual abuse. Sanctuary for Families coordinated this program in partnership with the Integrated Domestic Violence part in Bronx Supreme Court. Through her work at Sanctuary for Families, she participated in extensive training in gender-based violence, trauma-informed lawyering, and complex family law matters. She is client-centered and skillfully guides her clients through all litigation phases. Her unwavering dedication to her clients and multifaceted expertise have shaped her into a trusted advocate for those in need of exceptional legal representation.
